Your base for the journey is INFAPRO, a long-standing reforestation project located within the Ulu Segama Forest Reserve, just outside the Danum Valley Conservation Area. INFAPRO offers spacious accommodations and 24-hour electricity – ideal for charging camera gear, powering devices, and enjoying uninterrupted comfort – making it a practical mid-range alternative to DVFC and a more accessible option than luxury lodges.
Each day features guided 4x4 safari drives and rainforest treks, giving you opportunities to encounter some of Borneo’s most iconic species, from orangutans and hornbills to pygmy elephants and flying squirrels. With a wildlife corridor connecting INFAPRO and DVFC, this area offers increased chances to spot rare and nocturnal species, especially during night walks and drives. End your expedition with a breathtaking sunrise at Bukit Atur, where mist rolls over the ancient rainforest canopy. LOCATION / HOW TO GET HERE
Just 11 kilometres from Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC), INFAPRO offers a quieter, more spacious alternative to staying inside the main research hub. Originally established as a reforestation project, this site now doubles as a comfortable base for exploring one of Borneo’s most iconic rainforests. With larger rooms, ensuite bathrooms, and 24-hour electricity, INFAPRO caters to travellers seeking a more relaxed, mid-range experience without compromising access to Danum Valley’s incredible biodiversity.
While accommodation is based at INFAPRO, most guided activities take place inside DVFC. Trek along established jungle trails, where rare bird species, orangutans, and towering dipterocarp trees await at every turn. After dark, the roads around INFAPRO become a hotspot for nocturnal wildlife. Night drives may reveal secretive species like marbled cats, flat-headed cats, leopard cats, and even the elusive Bornean clouded leopard, along with sightings of Western tarsiers, slow lorises, and binturongs.
INFAPRO features two resthouse options that include attached bathrooms with hot showers. Meals are served buffet-style at the nearby dining hall, with special dietary needs accommodated upon request. Whether you’re here for photography, wildlife, or simply to slow down in nature, INFAPRO delivers a rewarding Danum experience with space to breathe.

Arrive in Lahad Datu by 08:15 Hrs and meet your guide for a 2.5-hour overland journey to INFAPRO, a live reforestation site situated just outside the Danum Valley Conservation Area.

Upon arrival, check in to your spacious INFAPRO resthouse, a comfortable alternative to DVFC's more basic lodging, and enjoy a welcome briefing and lunch.

After a short rest, depart at 15:00 Hrs for your first 4x4 safari drive into Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC). Keep your eyes peeled for primates, hornbills, and other wildlife along the way.
