Kawag Nature Lodge in Danum Valley is a popular eco-lodge located in the heart of the Borneo rainforest, in Sabah, Malaysia. The lodge is situated on the buffer zone of the Danum Valley Conservation Area, one of the largest protected areas of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in the world. Surrounded by lowland dipterocarp forests of the Ulu Segama Forest Reserve, the forest area has seen several scientific expeditions conducted, showing potential for its thriving growth in terms of flora and fauna.

Location / How To Get Here
The Kawag Forest, situated within the Ulu Segama Forest Reserve and located just outside of Danum Valley. Though many will think that it is part of Danum Valley, it is in fact located about an hour away. Despite this, the Kawag Forest attracts numerous scientific expeditions due to its revival as a thriving habitat for various species.
Visitors can reach the Kawag Nature Lodge from Lahad Datu by land, with a 90-minute drive on both paved and gravel roads.
Highlights
There are a number of jungle trails at Kawag such as the 2km long Kingfisher Trail and Argus Trail to name a few. Night safaris along dirt tracks is also available, where experienced nature guides will use spotlights to search for nocturnal animals on the tracks and amongst the tree canopies above.
The 15-metre or 30 feet high observatory tower is located a 5-minute walk away from the resort's restaurant. After climbing up 10 flights of stairs, the view from the top is perfect for sunrise and sunset watching. Guests can also choose to have breakfast at the top of the tower upon special request. Do take note that the observatory tower can only accommodate a maximum of 10 people at the top.
Background of Resort
The lodge is operated by Borneo Refugia Adventure, a company that focuses on providing quality eco-tourism and activities. The lodge was originally named as Kawag Danum Rainforest Lodge before it is rebranded as Kawag Nature Lodge.
