4D3N Blue Rings Reef & Borneo Rainforest Lodge – Danum Valley Discovery
Overview of Location
This 4-day, 3-night journey combines the best of Sabah’s marine and rainforest ecosystems in a single adventure. Begin your experience with a coastal escape to the Silam Coast Conservation Area, where Blue Rings Reef and nearby islands reveal vibrant coral habitats, untouched beaches, and rare birdlife. After a morning of sea breezes and island exploration, travel inland to the award-winning Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL) in Danum Valley.
Here, you’ll immerse yourself in one of the oldest rainforests on Earth. Trek to ancient Kadazandusun burial sites, dip into natural rock pools, and stroll across canopy walkways for breathtaking rainforest views. Guided by expert naturalists, you’ll have excellent opportunities to encounter wildlife such as orangutans, hornbills, gibbons, pygmy elephants, and nocturnal species on night drives and walks. With a balance of structured excursions and leisure time, this itinerary offers an ideal blend of exploration, relaxation, and eco-luxury.
LOCATION / HOW TO GET HERE
The nearest town to Danum Valley Conservation Area is Lahad Datu, located on Sabah’s south-eastern coast.
Buses connect Lahad Datu to Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tawau, and Semporna. Land transfers take between 5 to 7 hours depending on the starting point.
MASWings operates daily flights between Kota Kinabalu and Lahad Datu (55 minutes). From Lahad Datu, it takes approximately 2.5 hours (97 km) to reach Borneo Rainforest Lodge. The first 15 km follows a sealed road along the Lahad Datu–Tawau highway, then continues on 82 km of gravel road through the rainforest.
