Borneo Rainforest Lodge earns Global Sustainable Tourism Council
Kota Kinabalu: The Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL) has officially earned its Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Certification, cementing its position as a leader in sustainable tourism.
This follows a rigorous audit in September 2024; BRL met the GSTC’s standards, highlighting its commitment to environmental conservation, cultural heritage, and community engagement.
BRL Chief Executive Officer Freddie Coleman received the certificate from General Manager of Vireo Sustainable Certification Sdn Bhd, Danny Ng.
The simple presentation ceremony was witnessed by Sabah Tourism Board (STB) Chief Executive Officer Julinus Jimit at the STB office. Julinus said STB wants to promote BRL, Imbak Canyon, and Maliau Basin under one package called a ‘Golden Triangle of Borneo’ at the World Travel Market London 2025.
This certification further solidifies BRL’s role as a trailblazer in ecotourism, offering travellers an authentic, sustainable experience.
Also present were BRL Operation Manager Abd Sail Jamaluddin, Training Manager Jill Justine, and Executive Conservation Abigale Bernard.
BRL is a subsidiary of the Sabah Foundation Group of Companies and is situated at the heart of one of the world’s oldest rainforests, Danum Valley, in Lahad Datu.
