About Kawag Danum Rainforest Lodge
OVERVIEW
The Kawag Danum Rainforest Lodge is situated in the Kawag Forest, home to a diversity of plant and animal species where many are endemic to Sabah and the island of Borneo. A stay at the lodge will see guests taking part in several activities, such as wildlife sightings and birdwatching, to name only a few.
The Kawag Danum Rainforest Lodge boasts 20 units air-conditioning and ceiling fans lodges for guests’ comfort. Guests can enjoy the facilities on hand such as the dining hall, observation tower, and a platform for those looking to explore the Kawag River. The lodges are also equipped with modern amenities such as hot and cold showers, bath towels, and toiletries. Electricity runs 24 hours.

Location / How To Get Here
The Kawag Forest, situated within the Ulu Segama Forest Reserve and located just outside of Danum Valley. Though many will think that it is part of Danum Valley, it is in fact located about an hour away. Despite this, the Kawag Forest attracts numerous scientific expeditions due to its revival as a thriving habitat for various species.
Visitors can reach the Kawag Nature Lodge from Lahad Datu by land, with a 90-minute drive on both paved and gravel roads.

Itinerary
Day 1 - Lahad Datu / Kawag Danum Rainforest Lodge / Trek to Riverine Trail / Night Drive

Recharge with breakfast and make our way to Kawag Rainforest Lodge at 10:30am.

Upon arrival at the lodge, refresh with a welcome drink and register. After registration, engage in a short briefing conducted by the Front Office Personnel before checking into your respective rooms.

After checking in, have lunch and embark on a guided trek down to Riverine Trail with a little wildlife watching along the way.

After trekking, head back to lodge to have dinner.

Head back out for a night safari drive into the jungles, in search of nocturnal wildlife. Take note that this activity is weather dependant.

Make way back to lodge for an overnight stay at Kawag Rainforest Lodge.
Day 2 - Observation Tower / Trek to Ali Baba Waterfall / Kawag River

It's an early morning for us as we go on a walk to the Observation Tower at 6am. Engage in birdwatching or take in the sounds of nature.

Head back to lodge for breakfast.

Embark on a guided trek to Waterfall Trail. Remember to prepare your swimming gear if you're planning to take a plunge into Ali Baba Waterfall. Wildlife sightings are also a treat as you may be able to spot bearded pigs, elephants, and birds while there!

Make way back to the lodge to freshen up after the trek and to have lunch.

After a short rest, embark on a guided walk along the Kawag River. If weather permits, water tubing is an activity you can choose to partake in though swimming is at your own risk.

Arrive back at the lodge for dinner.

Day 3 - Hike to Bukit Atur / Danum Valley / Lahad Datu

It's another early morning rise for us as we head out for a guided walk to View Point Trail at 5am.

Make way back to the lodge for breakfast. Choose to go trekking again if you still have the energy or rest up and recharge your energy.

It's time to bid farewell to Kawag! Depart for Lahad Datu airport to catch respective flights or drop off at respective hotels in Lahad Datu town. Until next time!
